Mariah Carey has launched a new MasterClass that teaches fans to write and produce songs.
On Thursday, the 53-year-old music icon announced on Twitter that she had released the series online, titled Mariah Carey: Teaches the Voice as an Instrument.
“For the first time, I’m letting the cameras in to watch my creative process,” she wrote in her tweet, as she shared a two-minute promotional clip for the class.

The Fantasy Songstress continued, “Now on MasterClass, I invite you to ‘The Butterfly Lounge,’ my musical haven where I write new songs, reimagine classics, and collaborate with artists across genres.
In the video, Mariah wore different black outfits with shiny gold necklaces and a butterfly ring with diamonds.
The We Belong Together singer is seen sitting on an ornate gold chair as she discusses her motivation for teaching the course.

“Music saved my life in so many ways,” she said.
“If I can do the same for other people, that’s it.”
Mariah, who made her debut at the age of 18, explained that she didn’t realize she was already producing in addition to singing and writing songs when she worked on her eponymous debut album.

“I love making music and having melodies playing through me is an incredible feeling,” said this New York native.

The revelation: Mariah, who debuted at the age of 18, explained that she didn’t realize she was already producing in addition to singing and writing songs when she worked on her eponymous debut album.

“This is the production,” she added. There is strength in that and no one really wants me to feel powerful.
The five-time Grammy Award winner continued, “We talk about the power of your voice. There can be strength in anything from whispering to literally screaming.
Then there is the power of self-expression and I want to do this because what I feel is in my heart.
Mariah shared that she strives to write and produce music that people can relate to and that evokes an emotional response.
“As a singer-songwriter, I choose to be very specific and real about certain things,” she said.

The Course: According to Rolling Stone, the online series, which is available to stream now to subscribers, has nine different video lessons
“Keeping things general but still trying to reveal a specific emotion I was feeling in hopes that others would relate to it.
“These things are really important to the person who is listening to the lyrics.”
“I’m Mariah Carey and this is a master class,” she states at the end of the clip.
The video concluded with a humorous moment as Maria, who was sitting on the sofa in her studio with one of her dogs, burst out laughing as the puppy looked at her and sobbed.
“Please tell me you got that,” she told the videographer.

On the course, Maria, who has a vocal range of five octaves, will teach people to use their voice not only for singing but also for songwriting, production, and instrumentation.
The course includes lessons such as Taking Care of Your Voice, Writing with Samples, and Producing with Your Voice.

In “Surviving in the Music Industry,” Mariah will share some of the challenges she faced during her decades-spanning career and will instruct subscribers on navigating the business and maintaining creative control over their music.
According to a press release obtained by Rolling Stone, Brandy, who appears in the promo clip, will join the star in the studio as they work on a “reimagined” version of Mariah’s 1997 hit, The Roof, which will feature The Boy Is Mine Hitmaker.
Fans will also see Mariah “in action as she channels Brandi on background vocals.”
