Mariah Carey reacted to suspicions that a recently posted video message of hers was generated by AI.
This week, the 55-year-old music icon released a Spotify Wrapped 2024 video in which he thanked fans for streaming his songs and promised to share new music soon.
The short clip shows Mariah, who shares 13-year-old twins with ex-husband Nick Cannon, wearing the red, fur-trimmed jumpsuit she wore on the cover of her 1994 Christmas album.
In low light, she sported a bold red lip as she delivered her message in front of twinkling Christmas trees.
But fans online were quick to point out that the self-proclaimed ‘Queen of Christmas’ seemed too perfect, comparing her subtle movements and carefully delivered words to artificial intelligence.
“I can’t tell if this is AI or if they pointed a gun at him…” wrote one fan on X in response to a fan account that shared the snippet.

Fans online were quick to point out that the self-proclaimed ‘Queen of Christmas’ seemed too perfect, comparing her subtle movements and carefully delivered words to artificial intelligence.
“I don’t know if this is AI or if they pointed a gun at him…” wrote one fan on X in response to a fan account that shared the snippet.
One fan added to the thread: “It looks like AI, omg,” with a sobbing emoji.
Another added to the thread: “Looks like AI OMG,” while someone else simply wrote: “This looks like AI HAHA.”
One fan defended the singing sensation, writing on the social media platform: “It’s not AI, it’s just reading something behind the camera that creates weird vibrations (can be seen in eye movements).”
Someone else chimed in: “No way you guys really think that’s not AI.”
Mariah joined in to give her answer, saying: ‘Bad lighting and red lips, is everyone thinking this is AI?’ There’s a reason I’m not a fan of any of that stuff!’
Referencing the Massachusetts stop of her Christmas tour, the hitmaker added: “About to celebrate #Christmas with my #lambily from Boston.”
There were also people who supported Carey’s insistence that she recorded the video herself.
“It must be hard to be so beautiful that no one believes you’re real,” one wrote.
“It’s really her, she’s just reading the teleprompter,” another follower added to the conversation.
Mariah blamed the video’s AI-like effect on “bad lighting and a red lip.”

The Fantasy hitmaker is currently hitting stages across the country as she performs her Christmas Time tour.
The tour was announced in August and celebrates the 30th anniversary of their timeless Christmas hit, All I Want For Christmas Is You.
The first show was on November 6 in Highland, California, and the final concert is scheduled for December 17 in Brooklyn.
Mariah’s setlist is completed with 26 songs and the concert lasts about 90 minutes.
Audiences will enjoy performances of the superstar’s biggest and most recognizable songs, as well as holiday classics.
It has become customary for Carey to promote her mid-’90s Christmas album during the last two months of the year.
The lead single is ubiquitous during the holiday season, as fans bring it back to the top of the music charts year after year.

On Thursday night, Mariah interacted with her nearly 14 million Instagram followers to promote the latest edition of her Christmas album.
Posting the album’s original cover, which showed her leaning against a snowy scene, she wrote a thoughtful caption.
‘The deluxe digital edition of my album Merry Christmas is now available! You know I don’t know numbers but I’m very proud to celebrate 30 years of this album. “I am very grateful to all my fans who spent many of their Christmases with these songs,” said the singer.
He added: ‘The album is now available with a new remastering of my 1994 concert at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine.
‘I hope you enjoy listening and that we have many more holidays together! Merry Christmas, xoxo M.’
