Maria Menounos announced that her mother, Litsa, died on Sunday from complications from stage four brain cancer.
The 42-year-old media correspondent made the news public via a post on her Instagram account, where she held her mother while she was lying in her bed.
The television personality also wrote a short note in her post that said, in part, “RIP mom. God loved her so much that he took her on a Greek Easter. ‘

Menounos also added, adding ‘Christ is risen mother’ in her mother’s native language.
The Extra host’s mother battled her cancer for nearly five years before finally succumbing to the disease.
The television host also had a brain tumor removed in 2017, although the growth was considered benign.
Last December, Menounos revealed that her parents had both been hospitalized after contracting COVID-19.

Their diagnosis came just after Litsa was told her condition was getting worse, although she and her husband, Costas, eventually recovered from the coronavirus.
In March, the actress appeared Live with Kelly and Ryan and spoke at length about her mother’s battle with brain cancer.
During the interview, the media correspondent enthusiastically commented that her mother had “ beaten COVID and she remains a miracle. ”
Menounos also told Ryan Seacrest that although she had reservations about leaving her parents to appear on the program, Litsa had encouraged her to do so.

“It’s been an extremely difficult time … it was hard to actually get here, but she wanted me to come here,” she said.
The Access Hollywood host further noted that her mother was adamant that her daughter should stay strong and keep working despite her own health issues.
“I said,” Mom, is it okay if I go see Kelly and Ryan tomorrow, are you okay? ” And she says, “Yes.” And she said it so quickly she didn’t even speak until then, ”she recalled.
Menounos concluded that she was “grateful that I could come home where my mother told me I did well.”

On her January show, Better Together, Menounos thanked her boyfriend Ed Mylett for helping provide a private jet so her parents could go back to their native Connecticut after the pandemic left them in Los Angeles for more than a year.
She told Mylett he made her [mom’s] dream come true ‘because’ she flew home so comfortably ‘after undergoing chemotherapy.
Last fall, Menounos took to Instagram with an emotional post wishing her mother a happy birthday.
