Marcus Rashford missed a great opportunity to secure a dramatic victory for Manchester United in their FA Cup clash against Liverpool.
United took an early lead at Old Trafford through Scott McTominay but were forced back on the stroke of half-time after goals from Alexis Mac Allister and Mo Salah.
However, Erik ten Hag’s team persevered and substitute Antony scored in the final minutes to draw the hosts level.
With the back-and-forth clash heading into extra time, Christian Eriksen found Rashford with a perfect pass that split Liverpool’s defensive line in stoppage time.
The England international deftly deflected the ball onto his right foot, but his subsequent shot left much to be desired as it sailed harmlessly wide of Caoimhin Kelleher’s post.
Marcus Rashford had a golden opportunity to score the late goal in Manchester United’s FA Cup quarter-final against Liverpool.
But the England international was unable to get a shot on target as the clash continued into extra time.
Although it appeared that Rashford had squandered the opportunity to take his team to the semi-finals of the FA Cup, closer inspection revealed that even if his shot had been on target, it may not have worked.
Replays showed Rashford may have been slightly offside when the pass was played, potentially saving Liverpool from what would surely have been a fatal blow.
