The Lifetime series is set to expose the former TV host’s heartbreaking ‘physical and mental decline.’

The film highlights the 59-year-old’s struggle with alcohol and substance abuse, and her niece, Alex Finnie, warns viewers that they are about to witness “a broken woman.”

The crew stopped filming in April 2023 after Wendy entered a treatment center for alleged “cognitive issues.”

Who is Wendy Williams?

Wendy Williams rose to fame in part because of her no-holds-barred approach to her life, which included sharing personal details about her health, plastic surgery and cocaine addiction, the subject of her 2003 memoir, Wendy’s Got the Heat.

She transitioned to television after a successful career as a radio host, known for her gossip and criticism of celebrities, including a controversial 2003 interview with Whitney Houston.

In 2022, Wendy’s eponymous daytime talk show ended due to her ongoing health issues. Sherri Shepherd, who replaced Williams as guest host, received her own show.

Wendy said in 2018 that years earlier she had been diagnosed with Graves’ disease, which leads to the overproduction of thyroid hormones and can cause a wide range of symptoms and affect overall health.

The guardian, whose name is Sabrina Morrissey, filed the lawsuit under seal (which keeps details of the case protected from the public), according to a report from TMZwho reviewed the court documents of the case.

The central point of the lawsuit, the outlet reported, could be related to the documentary that will be released about the conflicted celebrity next Saturday.

Sabrina asked the court for an injunction, the outlet reported, indicating that her request could be for a judge to prevent the network from airing the television special.

The judge in the case issued an order that it remain temporarily closed to the public, pending a hearing scheduled for next week.

Despite the worrying portrayal of the documentary, Wendy herself appears as its executive producer.

What has Wendy Williams been diagnosed with?

The Wendy’s team announced Thursday that the former radio DJ has been diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia (FTD) and aphasia, a disorder that affects the way someone communicates.

According to Johns Hopkins Medicine, FTD is a group of disorders that occur when nerve cells in the frontal and temporal lobes of the brain are lost. FTD can affect behavior, personality, language, and movement.

The Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration describes FTD as a group of brain disorders caused by degeneration of the frontal and/or temporal lobes of the brain that affects behavior, language, and movement.

Aphasia, a brain disorder that can cause problems speaking or understanding words, may be a symptom of this. The association describes frontotemporal degeneration as “an inevitable decline in functioning,” with an average life expectancy of seven to 13 years after the onset of symptoms.

FTD usually occurs in people in their 40s, 50s, and 60s. It can affect a person’s personality, causing a loss of inhibition or inappropriate behavior. It is sometimes confused with depression or bipolar disorder and can take years to diagnose.

There are no treatments to slow or stop the disease, but some interventions can help control symptoms.

Why was Wendy Williams appointed legal guardian?

Wendy’s diagnosis came in 2023, but a year earlier, in early 2022, Wells Fargo froze her bank accounts and denied her access to her funds and assets.

The bank claimed in court that she was being unduly influenced and a victim of financial exploitation.

This resulted in a New York judge appointing a guardian in May 2023 to manage Wendy’s life and finances.

His relatives say they do not know what prompted the legal action and the identity of the guardian was not immediately announced, while documents related to his appointment were sealed.

Wendy’s son, Kevin Hunter Jr., whom she shares with her ex-husband, Kevin Hunter, is under suspicion for allegedly stealing some of her money in the documentary, although he denies this on camera.

‘I have never taken [money] without his consent,” he says in the film, although Wendy’s sister, Wanda, claims that his mother still supports him financially.

Where is Wendy Williams now?

Wendy is currently “in a treatment facility,” and her family recently confirmed that they can only speak to her if she chooses to call them.
