A doorbell camera captured the moment a man brazenly walked onto an Adelaide front porch and stole a package, before protecting it with his jacket and walking away.
Young mom Chanté Betkowski was feeding her baby, Airlie, inside her home on Kent Avenue in Brahma Lodge when the package snatcher stole her package.
Ms Betkowski said the package had only been there for half an hour before it was stolen.
The high-visibility-clad postal looter can be seen walking straight to the front door wearing a bicycle helmet before grabbing the package and brazenly walking away.
But Ms Betkowski says the package snatcher might not be suitable for the contents of the package.
“It was about $100 worth of baby items,” he told Daily Mail Australia.
Adelaide’s mother couldn’t believe that someone had come off the street just to steal her package from her porch.
She says she only found out about the theft after receiving a notification on her phone while feeding baby Airlie.
The porch thief took the package apparently unaware that it would be caught on the doorbell camera.
“I was sitting in the living room feeding my baby when I got the notification on my phone that my doorbell camera saw a person,” she said.
“I immediately reviewed the video and thought it looked like he had taken the package that had just been delivered. At first I didn’t believe it so I finished feeding my baby and got up to check and the package was gone.
After checking that the package was missing, Ms. Betkowski tried to take matters into her own hands and find the thief herself.
The package contained about $100 worth of baby products that Ms. Betkowski had ordered.
I wasn’t sure what to do so I called my partner and then got in the car to see if I could find the guy. Not being able to find him, my partner came home and we filed a police report.
Betkowski said that despite her and police efforts, the porch picker has not been located since Wednesday’s midday break-in.
Hoping to get his belongings back, he posts a video of the robbery on social media in the hope that someone will know who the man is.
“About 8,000 people in the area have seen the video so far, someone has to know who it is,” he said.
‘I don’t normally post this kind of stuff, but I’m very angry. If anyone knows who he is, or sees him hanging around the Brahma Lodge area, please send me a message. she wrote.
“I hope you feel terrible when you open it to see baby stuff.”
South Australian police are working to find the package and have released a statement describing the suspect.
“The suspect is described as Caucasian, in his 30s, wearing a yellow hi-vis hood, bicycle helmet, dark baseball cap, dark pants, dark boots, and a black backpack.”
