Manny Pacquiao ‘in talks to take on star Terence Crawford this summer in Abu Dhabi’ as boxing legend prepares to return ring after TWO YEARS
- Manny Pacquiao hasn’t fought since he first lost Keith Thurman’s career
- The 42-year-old is in talks with WBO champion Terence Crawford this summer
- Their welterweight blockbuster hit is scheduled for June 5 in Abu Dhabi
Manny Pacquiao is arguing to face Terence Crawford in Abu Dhabi this summer after nearly two years out of the ring.
Sportsmail reported last year that the Middle East was lined up as the most likely location for the fight and now ESPN claim both teams are based in Abu Dhabi.
Plans for Pacquiao to fight pound-for-pound star Crawford have been in place for nearly 12 months, but a deal is far from final.
Manny Pacquiao is in talks for his first fight since defeating Keith Thurman in July 2019
“ The fight is not nearing completion, but if it does happen, Abu Dhabi is the target location and June 5 is the target date, ” a Top Rank chief reportedly told ESPN.
Pacquiao, 42, has not fought since dethroning WBA title holder Keith Thurman in July 2019 and was recently named as the governing body’s ‘champion in recess’ due to his inactivity.
Undefeated WBO Welterweight Champion Crawford was last eliminated in November, brutally stopping British Kell Brook in four rounds.
Widely regarded as one of the best fighters in the world, the 33-year-old recently ruled out a superfight with welterweight rival Errol Spence, with neither side willing to compromise on finances.
Meanwhile, there is new hope that Brook and longtime opponent Amir Khan will finally meet in a domestic blockbuster.
Pound-for-pound star Terence Crawford could face Pacquiao in Abu Dhabi on June 5
Former world champion Khan revealed earlier this week that he has told his promoter Eddie Hearn to ‘make the fight happen’.
Speak against TalkSPORT, he said, ‘What’s the fight everyone wants to see?
Everyone wants to see the fight with Kell Brook. We’ve been talking about it for years and years.
Look, me and Kell are probably past our best, I’ll be honest. But at the same time, we are both about the same age.
“I think it would be a good fight between us to see who is number one in Britain.”
