Manhunt launched in Manchester after woman stabbed to death in ‘heartless attack’

Date:

A manhunt is underway for a knifeman after a 44-year-old woman was fatally stabbed in Greater Manchester, the second such incident in the city in 48 hours.

Officers were called to Edge Lane, Droylsden at around 12pm on Friday for reports of a stabbing and confirmed the woman had died at the scene.

Police say initial reports suggest the male suspect fled the area in an unknown direction. Investigators could not confirm whether the victim was known to the attacker.

Greater Manchester Police said officers were working with the victim’s family and members of the public to try to establish what happened. The victim’s family was assisted by family liaison officers.

Chief Inspector Phil Davies, Tameside District Commander, said: “First of all, our thoughts go out to the victim’s family and friends. Our specialist family liaison officers are currently with the victim’s family to support them through this incredibly difficult time.

“GMP officers and our major incident team are working extremely hard to establish the full circumstances surrounding this incident. We will do everything we can to ensure that we find the person responsible for this brutal attack.

“I understand that this news will come as a great shock to the people of the Droylsden community. In response, you will see an increased presence of our local officers, who will patrol the local community on foot and in vehicles to provide additional reassurance to the community.”

It comes because 21-year-old Salah Eldin Adam was killed in another incident at Old Trafford on Wednesday night. Police believe he was fatally stabbed while helping a friend who was attacked.

Local residents have expressed their heartache over the two stabbings that rocked the community less than 48 hours apart.

“It’s appalling,” one person who witnessed the Droylsden attack told the Manchester Evening News.

“You can’t comprehend it. Such a pity. There was blood everywhere. I saw someone being taken away with the trauma helicopter.”

Angela Rayner, the local MP, said her thoughts were with the family of the 44-year-old woman who was killed.

“I am in contact with the police as the facts come to light,” she said.

“Officers remain on site to reassure the neighborhood.”

No arrests have been made.

Anyone with information, CCTV or video footage relating to the incident can contact GMP by calling 101 or by going to www.gmp.police.uk and quoting log 1353 dated 02/06/2023. Information can be passed on anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
