Manchester United are getting closer to signing Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane and are confident of finalizing the deal by early August, according to reports.
Sports post revealed this week that the Red Devils are planning to make a formal offer to the LaLiga giants regarding their French centre-back, after they were assured the player wants to move to Old Trafford.
Varane has less than a year left on his Real contract and the Spanish club risk losing the player for free next summer if they don’t cash in on the 28-year-old centre-back this year.

And according to the Manchester Evening NewsUnited are set to complete the transfer in 12 days, which would mean Varane being announced as a Manchester United player two weeks before the Premier League season starts.
Sports post revealed that the 28-year-old has indicated he wants to go to United, although nothing has been agreed yet, with a £50m fee for a player left on a one-year contract is still considered too high by United.
Varane has played for Real for a decade, winning three LaLiga titles, four Champions League trophies and four FIFA Club World Cups with the Spanish giants, for whom he has played 359 times since his debut.

The France international has yet to return to pre-season for the LaLiga giants, who are now managed by former Everton coach Carlo Ancelotti following the departure of Zinedine Zidane at the end of last season.
Varane is coming back to Real’s training late due to his efforts for France at Euro 2020 this summer, where Les Bleus went out in the last 16 leg following their defeat to Switzerland on penalties.
A move to Old Trafford would allow him to compete with players like Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof for a starting spot alongside Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who finished 12 points behind Premier League champions Manchester City this season.

Kieran Trippier is also interesting United – but the right-back could also prove too expensive
The signing of Varane would be a strong signal of intent that they are prepared to close the gap on their city rivals, with the £73m signing from Borussia Dortmund and England winger Jadon Sancho set to be confirmed this week.
Meanwhile, United retain a stake in Kieran Trippier, but again negotiations fail, with Atletico Madrid’s valuation posing an obstacle.
There is interest from Inter and AC Milan in Alex Telles, but their proposals were for loans, while discussions on the sale of Diogo Dalot have not developed.
Newcastle United are one of the clubs keen to get a loan for Axel Tuanzebe, who wants to play more regular football, especially with Varane expected to join.
