Manchester United superstar Bruno Fernandes has admitted that he was blown away by Marcus Rashford after training with his new club and was ‘surprised’ by the 22-year-old’s qualities.

Fernandes wasted no time popping up as a sensation at Old Trafford, landing on the ground since his transfer in January pushing his new club straight back into the Champions League battle.

Still, Fernandes wants to praise the people around him and insists that although he was well aware of Rashford’s reputation, he was overwhelmed by the many talents of the young English attacker.

“Rashford, I think he can have a great pace, but great quality,” said Fernandes BT Sport.

“It is sometimes difficult to go at that speed and still have the quality to do the right things – the right time to shoot, succeed, the skills.

“He took me by surprise. Of course I already knew his quality because he is one of the best young players in the world. ‘

Fernandes, 25, then turned his attention to a United legend, admitting that Cristiano Ronaldo is the most skilled footballer he has ever shared a field with.

The duo now regularly play for the Portuguese national side, of which Ronaldo captains, and Fernandes admire how his compatriot has become one of the greatest, most complete players of football.

“Cristiano – more in the early years of his career, he was one of the most skilled players in the world,” Fernandes explained, in a segment where he named a team of his best teammates.

“I think he changed his game a little bit, but he is still a player that is very difficult to defend against.

“For me, for everyone I’ve played with and against, I think he’s the most skilled player I’ve ever seen.”

Fernandes and United return to action on Thursday evening as they travel to South London to take on Roy Hodgson’s Crystal Palace.

The Red Devils must quickly revive a winning series, after admitting a painful time-running man at home to Southampton in their most recent game.

United is currently tied for points with Leicester, who is in fourth place and receives European hopeful Sheffield United at home.

Victory for United could see them get away from the Foxes to fourth, with a total of 62 points, meaning Frank Lampard’s Chelsea, at 63 points, would have a few sleepless nights ahead.
