Ole Gunnar Solskjaer admitted that Manchester United need to be more clinical after they scraped past Norwegian minnows Kristiansund in their manager’s homeland.

United – who were pictured arriving home from Norway in the early hours of Wednesday morning – relied on an injury-time winner from Juan Mata to see off the club based in Solskjaer’s hometown.

And with a tricky fixture against Chelsea on the opening weekend of the season, Solskjaer admitted his side need to improve in front of goal.

‘We need to be more clinical,’ said Solskjaer. ‘That’s where you win games.

‘I think we’re looking solid at the back. They had a great chance early in the second half and we should have done better.

‘We’re going to keep working, keep improving, keep making the relationships between the players and the patterns work even better.

‘It’s not a concern but it’s something we’re going to have to improve on.’

United have one more friendly before the season starts, aginast Italian side AC Milan on Saturday.
