‘He’s 26… you’re worried if you’re pointing these things out to him’: Roy Keane questions Harry Maguire’s defensive abilities following record-breaking £80m Man United move
- Roy Keane has doubts over Harry Maguire’s defensive capabilities at Man United
- The 26-year-old became the world’s most expensive defender this summer
- However, despite the huge price-tag, Keane believes Maguire has a lot to prove
Roy Keane insists there are still questions marks over Harry Maguire’s defensive capabilities following his record-breaking £80million move to Manchester United earlier this summer.
Keane was quick to point out that Maguire is great on the ball but admits it’s ‘a worry’ when the former Leicester man defends on the turn.
Maguire has started all four of United’s Premier League games this season but has only managed to keep one clean sheet, which came in United’s impressive 4-0 opening day win over Chelsea.

The former Manchester United midfielder believes Maguire has made several simple mistakes
While Maguire is yet to settle into his new surroundings, Keane believes he shouldn’t be making the mistakes he’s made so far considering his age.
Keane told ITV: ‘I think he’s done OK. We were talking about how good he is on the ball, but defensively I still think he’s… I still have one or two question marks over him.
‘I always worry about his pace on the turn. I remember the first goal against Crystal Palace where he’s not doing the basics, covering round his other centre-half.
‘Listen, he’s 26 years of age now, you’re worried if you’re pointing these things out to him.’
Maguire played the full 90 minutes for England in the 4-0 win over Bulgaria on Saturday.
