Manchester United in pole position to sign Lisandro Martinez as Ajax demand £43million
Manchester United in pole position to sign Lisandro Martinez as Ajax demands £43million for his signature… the Argentine star is high on Erik ten Hag’s wish list but remains open to a move to Arsenal
- Man United set to take big step this weekend to sign Lisandro Martinez
- Sources in the Netherlands say the player is an important target of Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford
- But Mikel Arteta also wants the Argentinian, who values Ajax at £43 million
- Arsenal have rejected a second £38m offer for the 24-year-old by Ajax
Lisandro Martinez has not closed the door to a move to Arsenal, despite Manchester United being tipped to win his signature.
The Ajax defender is a man in demand and his club is holding it at around £43 million after turning down two offers from Arsenal so far.
The first offer was £30million and the second, rejected earlier this week, was £38million including add-ons.

New United manager Erik ten Hag plans to ensure that the club comes to an agreement with Ajax
Clearly the 24-year-old centre-back is a player Mikel Arteta really wants as part of his new look project, but sources in the Netherlands say United are expected to make a big push for the Argentina international over the weekend and that Erik ten Hag’s appeal would influence any bidding war.
Martinez would be very high on Ten Hag’s wish list and is considered their next target after Tyrell Malacia and Frenkie de Jong. United, for their part, have insisted they must first sack defenders, with players like Axel Tuanzebe, Eric Bailly and Phil Jones all looking for a fresh start.
sports post understands that Martinez is open to both possibilities and has not ruled out the prospect of joining Arsenal if they reach an agreement with Ajax.
Martinez, who has seven caps and could play at center or left back, is on holiday but is following reports about his future and relishing the idea of playing for both sides in the Premier League.
Mikel Arteta also wants Martinez as he continues to focus on reinforcements for his Arsenal side
In the meantime, however, he remains committed to Ajax, respecting the platform they have given him since his move from Defensa y Justica in 2019.
United have progressed in negotiations for Feyenoord’s left-back Malacia, while De Jong will also be finalized this weekend as United finalize the payment and bonus structure with Barcelona, on top of a base fee of around £56million.
United players have tried to impress Ten Hag in his first week of training, including a number of players from the club’s Under-23 squad in hopes of earning a place on the first-team tour.
As of Monday, a further 13 players will return after internationals, including Cristiano Ronaldo, Harry Maguire, Bruno Fernandes, Raphael Varane, Diogo Dalot, Eric Bailly and James Garner, who is wanted by Nottingham Forest.
