Manchester United ‘should put me on the bench then!’ Jokes Paul Pogba after telling Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side average more points per game WITHOUT him this deadline – but star says the stat is a ‘good challenge’ to change
- Man United averaged 1.9 points per game with Paul Pogba in the XI this season
- If the 28-year-old does not play, the Red Devils have an average of 2.2 points per game
- He was unable to influence this statistic on Sunday as their match against Liverpool was postponed
Paul Pogba joked that Manchester United should drop him from the starting XI after it emerged that the team has performed better without him this season.
Despite its importance to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side, the Red Devils surprisingly score more points per game when Pogba is not on the field.
By the numbers, the Old Trafford outfit averages 2.2 points per game, compared to 1.9 when Pogba plays.

United averaged 1.9 points per game when Pogba plays, compared to 2.2 when he doesn’t
And that was presented to him by the French TV network Canal +, the 28-year-old took that as a joke – adding that he hopes he can improve the statistic when he starts.
“So you should put me on the couch then!” he said lightly.
‘I hadn’t seen this statistic. If the team does better without me, I would fully understand that the coach would put me on the bench.
‘It’s a great challenge for me anyway. I hope it goes to the other side. I hope people will gain more with me than without me. ‘
Pogba was unable to turn the tide on Sunday after United’s long-awaited clash against bitter rivals Liverpool was postponed.
United fans broke into the stadium and raided the field in protest against club owners, the Glazer family, while bottles and barriers were thrown at police officers and horses outside the ground.

The Red Devils were among 12 clubs that signed up last month for the escaping European Super League, which collapsed within 48 hours due to tremendous, unrelenting pressure.
Those plans took the anger against the already despised Glazer family to a new level, with fans gathering at both Old Trafford and the Lowry, the city center team hotel, to demand change ahead of Sunday’s clash with Liverpool.
Police said that by late afternoon about 200 protesters had gathered outside the Lowry and more than 1,000 inside the stadium.
There was an initial unspecified delay at the scheduled 4:30 pm kick-off before United came through at 5.35 pm confirmation that the game had been postponed “due to safety and security concerns surrounding the protest.”
