Manchester United fans are bursting with excitement after ‘tactical genius’ Ralf Rangnick reached an agreement to become the club’s new interim manager.
United explained after the sacking of manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer that they had been targeting a coach for six months before hiring a permanent successor in the summer and it showed as Rangnick drew closer.
The news of his upcoming appointment was warmly received on social media, with fans describing it as “immense” and the beginning of a “new era”.
“We got one of the best football brains in the business in Ralf Rangnick, this is huge,” wrote one fan page.
“Not only will he be in charge for the next 6 months, he will also progress into an alternate capacity role, similar to that of a director. A step in the right direction.’
Andrew Marshallsay added: “Ralf Rangnick as manager of Man United is a huge step.
“He’s one of the reasons football tactics are the way they are today. He’s a tactical genius.’
Manchester United have agreed to appoint Ralf Rangnick as interim manager
Fans are happy they’re about to appoint a ‘tactical genius’ like Rangnick
Nicknamed “Professor” during his early managerial career in Germany, Rangnick has built a reputation as one of the best football brains in the sport.
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp and Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel are among the disciples for his ‘heavy metal, rock and roll’ football. Bayern Munich boss Julian Nagelsmann also worked closely with Rangnick at RB Leipzig.
United had lost a style of play and identity under Solskjaer, ending in a humiliating 4-1 defeat for Watford, and fans are overjoyed at the prospect of better football.
“Ralf Rangnick has a great reputation for building teams from the core,” wrote one fan.
“He is a hard-working press offensive manager. The Manchester United team will be very exciting and a sight to behold. We will rise above the ashes into the spotlight. A new era has begun. We’re not here to participate.’
Another overjoyed fan added: ‘He’s a master at improving people – not just players. Everyone gets better with him in the building.’

Rangnick is seen as a revolutionary coach and fans think it’s a ‘step in the right direction’
Many United players are in need of new coaching as they try to improve after a subpar start to the season, which saw them finish eighth in the Premier League, 12 points behind leader Chelsea.
United often looked listless, with Cristiano Ronaldo being one of the least pressured in the entire league.
There are also real concerns about the solidity of the midfield with Fred and Scott McTominay two under the microscope.
In addition to raving about Rangnick’s tactical prowess, social media also had some fun when the news came that a deal had been reached.
Using a GIF of Ralph Wiggum from the Simpsons, a fan watched to explain how Fred fits into United’s midfield. In the GIF, Ralph, who represents Rangnick, places an egg in a basket, but there is a hole in the bottom.
Others had fun with memes and GIFs while looking at the size of Rangnick’s orbit
Since he is expected to take on an advisory role, it was jokingly said that he would be interviewing himself
Others joked that in six months Rangnick will move up into an advisory position and will undoubtedly have some influence on who becomes the next manager.
Based on a scene from the hit sitcom series The US Office, Dwight Schrute is in a job interview.
In the recreated footage, it’s a scene in which Rangnick interviews himself for the summer permanent job.
“You’ll hear from us soon, Mr. Rangnick,” it reads. “And I think you’ll like the call you’re about to receive.”
Cristiano Ronaldo’s role under Rangnick quickly came under scrutiny due to his high press
A video joked that Ronaldo will struggle to cope with the German’s strict system
Ronaldo is near the bottom with pressing stats across the Premier League
Gegen-depressed and intense football is absolutely central to Rangnick’s plan and many have already doubted Ronaldo’s ability to exist in such a regime.
Fans used GIFs of people screaming and another of a video of a man nearly drowning to take on the struggles many believe Ronaldo will face as he adapts to the new style.
Ronaldo was considered ‘too old’ for Rangnick in 2016 when he was at RB Leipzig and it will be fascinating to see how the German works with the Portuguese attacker.
