Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool are on pole position if Frenkie de Jong decides to leave Barcelona in the January transfer window.
According to ESPN, Chelsea are said to have been encouraged that the Dutch international may reconsider his status at the Nou Camp, despite remaining adamant over the summer that he would stay with the club.
De Jong’s long-running transfer saga with Manchester United continued throughout the summer, with Barcelona willing to admit the midfielder to the Premier League side to help ease their financial problems.

A deal of around £56million was agreed between the clubs, but De Jong’s reluctance to leave the Spanish giants saw the move fail and United shifted their focus to Casemiro as a midfield recruit. While the contact with Chelsea late in the summer period also proved fruitless.
However, the 25-year-old has only started five games in all competitions for Xavi’s side this season so far and could potentially fail to qualify for the knockout stage of the Champions League – two factors driving De Jong to the Eredivisie in January.
Chelsea are looking to strengthen midfield after N’Golo Kante’s injury. The Frenchman will be sidelined for four months and will miss next month’s World Cup, while he and Jorginho have not yet reached an agreement on a new deal with the club.

Liverpool are also keen to bolster their midfield after the injury on loaning Arthur Melo
The Blues are said to already have a good relationship with HCM Sports Management, who have De Jong on their books and are pushing a strategy to sign younger players for long contracts.
United also still retain a stake in the Dutch star, who previously worked with Erik ten Hag at Ajax but would have to be smart about finances after their summer releases.
Liverpool are also looking for a central midfielder after Arthur Melo was ruled out until the new year on the day of the deadline.
Every step of the Premier League clubs will depend on De Jong making noises that he is now ready to leave Barcelona and move away from the club.
