Manchester United are investigating a summer deal for Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane.
The France international has been the subject of long-held interest from United and they have received encouragement that he is ready to leave Madrid at the end of this season, although there could be competition from Paris Saint-Germain, the club Varane followed like a boy.
The 27-year-old Varane has a one-year contract after this summer and is still valued in the £ 60 million region by Madrid, which will have to raise money for their own rebuilding.

Nikola Milenkovic from Fiorentina has also been offered.
Varane’s pedigree is undeniable with 18 trophies in 10 years in Madrid and a World Cup with France. Indeed, United has tried to lure Varane before.
Sir Alex Ferguson wanted to sign him to United from Lens in 2011, but then Madrid advisor Zinedine Zidane convinced Varane to move to Spain. United made further approaches in 2017 but were turned down and brought in Victor Lindelof of Benfica.
