Manchester United and Tottenham aim at Donny van de Beek ‘waiting for Barcelona to make an offer’

Manchester United and Tottenham target Donny van de Beek ‘waiting for Barcelona to make offer while telling agent to wait talks’ to see if LaLiga giants hit the £ 50m asking price

  • Donny van de Beek reportedly hopes to secure a move to Barcelona
  • The Ajax star is reluctant to enter into discussions with interested Premier League clubs
  • Barcelona is currently unable to meet Ajax’s £ 50 million asking price
  • Ronald Koeman would have to sell fringe players to fund a transfer

Ajax star Donny van de Beek is waiting to see if Barcelona will make an offer for him before considering moving to Manchester United and Tottenham, sources in Spain said.

SPORT claim Barcelona cannot afford to spend the 55 million euros (£ 50 million) needed to meet Ajax’s asking price, but could make an offer for the midfielder once they offload fringe players to collect money.

The report suggests that Barça is currently preoccupied with the prospect of Lionel Messi’s possible departure after the Argentinian filed a transfer request on Tuesday.

However, the Spanish giants could make a move for Van de Beek once the situation in Messi is resolved.

New Blaugrana boss Ronald Koeman is an admirer of the 23-year-old and held the player internationally during his two-year reign as Holland manager.

Van de Beek’s fine form in the Eredivisie and Champions League has caught the attention of Real Madrid, Manchester United and Tottenham, but the Dutchman prefers Barcelona after making inquiries last summer.

Furthermore, Van de Beek would like to reunite with former Ajax teammate Frenkie de Jong in Camp Nou.

The transfer market is open until October 5, giving Koeman plenty of time to fire fringe players and raise money to make a new offer.

Van de Beek played a total of 175 games for Ajax, scored 41 goals and registered 34 assists.
