Manchester United ‘ahead of Arsenal in race to sign Ruben Neves’

Manchester United lead Arsenal and Tottenham in the race to sign Ruben Neves with Wolves midfielder available this summer for £35m… as the Red Devils weigh in on the sale of PSG target Paul Pogba

  • Ruben Neves has developed into a high-quality central midfielder at Wolves
  • After signing with Porto in 2017, he has made over 150 appearances
  • Manchester United are reportedly interested in signing the Portuguese
  • Arsenal also want Neves, but United are seen as the frontrunner

Manchester United have led Arsenal in the race to sign Wolves star Ruben Neves.

The Old Trafford club are keen to make a deal for Neves, who has been doing well in the Midlands since he switched from Porto in 2017.

Arsenal maintain interest in the 24-year-old, but talkSPORT report that United now have a lead over the Gunners in the pursuit of the central midfielder.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer loves the midfielder

Neves is represented by Jorge Mendes and has been in talks with Arsenal for the past few weeks about a move.

He has been identified as a potential partner for Thomas Partey if Granit Xhaka leaves this summer.

Neves has two years left on his contract and would cost his suitors around £35million.

Spurs are also interested in the former Porto man and have the advantage of Nuno Espirito Santos in the dugout, a manager who is familiar with Neves’ strengths.

But it is United at the helm and Neves could be a key part of the club this summer.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has already signed Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund for £73million and a deal is also expected for Real Madrid centre-back Raphael Varane.

Sancho, Varane and Neves would be seen as a major statement of intent with a real strengthening of United’s backbone.

A deal for Neves looks more likely if Paul Pogba leaves and the club are considering selling him for £43m this summer rather than losing him for nothing next season.

PSG are interested and Mino Raiola is discussing terms with the French champions so that a potential deal could have a knock-on effect.
