Manchester City have announced their first signing of the summer after completing a deal for Brazilian star Savinho.

The winger, originally from the municipality of Sao Mateus in Brazil, graduated from Atlético Miniero’s youth academy before moving to Troyes in 2022.

Despite joining the French side, Savio has not played a single competitive match for Troyes, having been loaned out to PSV Eindhoven and Girona.

Savinho has signed a five-year contract with the reigning Premier League champions that will keep him at the club until 2029 after Pep Guardiola was impressed by the winger’s potential.

The talented forward enjoyed a standout season in Spain with City’s sister club Girona, where his 11 goals and 10 assists helped them qualify for the Champions League for the first time.

Following the completion of his move to the Etihad, Savinho told City’s official website: “I’m really happy to be joining Premier League champions and Club World Cup winners Manchester City. Everyone knows they’re the best team in the world at the moment, so to be here is really exciting for me.

‘I’m excited about the opportunity to work with Pep Guardiola, one of the greatest managers of all time, and someone who I know will help me improve even further.

‘I’ve had a fantastic time in Spain and I’m looking forward to the new challenge of playing in the Premier League alongside some of the best players in the world.

“I can’t wait to meet the fans and my new teammates and look forward to being part of bringing more success to City.”

Savio reaped the rewards of his fine form in La Liga, earning a call-up to the senior Brazil squad this year, where he made his debut against England at Wembley.

He has played five international matches, most notably scoring in Brazil’s 4-1 victory over Paraguay on Saturday in the Copa América.

Meanwhile, Troyes have suffered consecutive relegations over the past two seasons, with the club dropping to the French third division after being relegated from Ligue 2 this summer.
