A Texas man with his ex-girlfriend’s name tattooed on his chest has been accused of fatally stabbing her just one day before her 27th birthday. Jorge Albert Chávez, 30, allegedly killed Dafne Michelle Dávila in the early hours of January 5 at a home in El Paso, Texas.
A chilling detail in Chavez’s mugshot shows the name “Dafne” tattooed on his chest above his orange prison jumpsuit. Authorities responded to a call about “family violence” at a residence in the 600 block of Zinc Place around 3:30 a.m. El Paso County Sheriff’s deputies arrived and found Dafne with serious stab wounds. She was rushed to the hospital, but tragically succumbed to her injuries.
According to a statement from the Sheriff’s Office: “At approximately 3:30 a.m., El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Officers responded to a report of family violence in the 600 block of Zinc Place in El Paso County, Texas. Upon arrival, officers noticed the suspect leaving the scene in a gray 2024 Chevrolet pickup truck.
Officers reported the suspect’s information to law enforcement agencies. Once inside the residence, officers discovered that the victim had been severely stabbed. “She was immediately transported to a local area hospital, but unfortunately succumbed to her injuries.”
Chavez was detained approximately 200 miles away in Reeves County and then transported back to El Paso by the Sheriff’s Fugitive Apprehension Unit. He is being held on $1 million bail. Dafne and Chávez reportedly had a tumultuous relationship. A text message that Dafne sent to a family member, obtained by a Univision affiliate KINTrevealed his struggles to leave Chávez.
She wrote: “It’s actually really hard for me to walk away, and I don’t know why, because the old me wouldn’t have lasted a second in this place… I know I have you and I’m beyond grateful, but I can’t explain it. . That’s why I’m attached, all I ask is that you be patient with me.”
A GoFundMe page It has been created to help with Daphne’s funeral expenses. The tribute describes her as a “beautiful soul” with a “big heart.” It says: “Dafne was not only physically beautiful but she had an even more beautiful soul and an even bigger heart. “They kidnapped her too soon and deprived her of the opportunity to achieve her goals.”
Sheriff Oscar Ugarte highlighted the case as a tragic example of domestic violence and urged anyone in similar situations to seek help: “This tragedy reminds us of the devastating impact domestic violence has on our community.”
