Man who stuck pacifier to baby’s mouth while drunk for 9 HOURS received award for saving woman’s life as an EMT just two years earlier

  • Jordan Hirst of Pennsylvania is accused of endangering children
  • According to police, Hirst used tape to keep a pacifier in his daughter’s mouth for hours
  • Friends who found the child say his son also had dried blood around his nose

A Pennsylvania father accused of sticking a pacifier to his baby’s mouth for hours while drunk had saved a woman’s life two years earlier.

Jordan Hirst, 22, of South Greensburg, Pennsylvania, was charged last week with reckless endangerment and two counts of child endangerment.

The incident happened on April 25 when Hirst called friends and family from his home and said he couldn’t find his one-and-a-half-year-old son.

Once home, two of the friends found the boy on the floor next to his crib with dried blood in and around his nose.

Hirst’s daughter, the group later discovered, was lying in her crib with her pacifier reportedly taped to her mouth.

Court documents show that the father was “so drunk” that he didn’t remember anything from 7 p.m. that night until 4 a.m. the next morning.

The shocking incident involving the young children comes not two years after Hirst and two fellow first responders received an award for saving a woman’s life.

Hirst called his friends around 8 p.m. and on April 25 to ask them to help find his son and when they arrived they found the boy in his own room.

The friends took the boy out of the house and took him to his grandmother.

While the two friends were taking the boy away from the home in southwest Pittsburgh, three others discovered Hirst’s daughter in her crib.

The entire group that responded to Hirst’s home after his call was told by the 22-year-old man that he was drunk, police said.

On Wednesday, the father-of-two was officially charged in Westmoreland County.

It’s a horrific turn of events for the first responder who helped save the life of a woman with no pulse in September 2021.

At the time, Hirst was honored by Irwin Council for his work with the Irwin Volunteer Fire Department as an EMT.

The woman had gone into cardiac arrest and Hirst and two others tried to resuscitate her and keep her alive.

“All I thought about was doing my job, laying on my chest and starting (chest) compressions,” Hirst told TribLive.com.

During a preliminary indictment, his bail was set at $25,000.

Hirst’s preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 9.

According to court records, Hirst’s only previous run-in with the law was a summary charge for exceeding the speed limit five or more miles in a 35 mph zone in 2019.

It is currently unclear who his son and daughter are currently staying with.
