Man Utd: Anthony Martial and Donny van de Beek all smiles after returning for pre-season training
Donny van de Beek and Anthony Martial arrived in Carrington today for pre-season preparation – and they looked very happy to be back after months of loan out.
The pair fell out of favor during previous regimes at Old Trafford and failed to impress Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and his successor, Ralf Rangnick, but they hope to revive their careers at Manchester United under new boss Erik ten Hag.
Van de Beek, 25, strode into the training pitch with a big smile on his face after six months on loan at Everton, where he made seven appearances and scored one goal.

The Holland international has been given a lifeline at United with the appointment of Ten Hag, who played just 70 Premier League minutes for the club in the first half of last season.
It continued the uncertain future the 25-year-old has faced since coming from Ajax in 2020 on a £40m deal, after getting just four top flight starts from Solskjaer last season.
Soon after his appointment in April, Ten Hag indicated that he would include Van de Beek, whom he coached at Ajax, in his selection for the season.
Meanwhile, Martial’s eager grin may have hidden some nerves on his return to Carrington after his loan spell at Sevilla.
United fullback Brandon Williams played 29 loan to Norwich last season
Goalkeeper David de Gea looked like he had never left to walk into the building
The Frenchman, 26, joined United in 2015 for £36 million as an exciting 19-year-old from Monaco, but failed to live up to expectations at Old Trafford.
He made 12 appearances at Sevilla, scoring once, and the Spanish club decided not to make the move permanent. It seems that the interest in Martial, which is available for transfer, is very low.
sports post reported last week that United reluctantly expect the attacker to stay with the club this season and Ten Hag will have to accommodate him in his plans.
Another hire, Brandon Williams, who spent last season at Norwich City, where he established himself and made 29 appearances, was also back in the building, although United are believed to be open to offers for the 21-year-old fullback.

David de Gea, Luke Shaw and Phil Jones were also among the first-team stars to return to Carrington on the first day of ten Hag’s new era. The Dutch boss arrived at 8 a.m. on Monday, driven by a driver.
Ten Hag was announced in April as United’s new manager, replacing interim manager Rangnick, who has left the club. He started preparing for his role in May, but is now training for the first time with his Red Devils players.
Newly appointed assistant coach Steve McClaren was also pictured stopping by Carrington, 21 years after leaving his role as Sir Alex Ferguson’s No 2 at Old Trafford.
Several first-team stars will be absent after playing the Nations League international matches in June, such as Cristiano Ronaldo and Bruno Fernandes.
But despite a significant number of absentees still enjoying their holiday, 15 senior players will still show up for their first season under ten Hag – including fallen English duo Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho.

He will have a lot of work to do as they finished sixth in the Premier League last season, 13 points off the Champions League places.
The Red Devils narrowly led West Ham to second place in Europa League qualifiers, narrowly missing out on the disgrace of the Europa Conference League’s third division.
Their total of 58 points was still their worst total in 32 years, and 35 points away from the final total of champions – and fierce rivals – Manchester City.
