Manchester United have confirmed the sale of Facundo Pellistri to Panathinaikos for £5.1m with a further £1.7m to take the total transfer fee to £6.8m.

The deal includes a 45 percent sell-on clause, while United also has a buyback option through 2027.

United confirmed the move on their official website on Wednesday evening after negotiating with the Greek club for several days over a transfer fee.

Pellistri’s last appearance in a United shirt came in the Community Shield against Manchester City at Wembley earlier this month.

The Uruguayan winger played the final half hour as United lost on penalties to the reigning Premier League champions.

Pellistri (left) struggled to break into Erik ten Hag’s (right) team and has now left the club.

That was the last of his 25 outings for the Diablos Rojos after failing to become a regular part of the first team since joining the club from Peñarol in 2020.

He was then loaned out twice to Spanish club Alavés before temporarily joining Granada for the second half of last season.

Pellistri, 22, returned to Old Trafford at the end of last season perhaps hoping to finally secure a place in Erik ten Hag’s side but found himself well down the pecking order.

The Dutch manager selected Marcus Rashford and Amad Diallo as his two wingers for United’s season-opening game against Fulham last Friday, with Alejandro Garnacho and Antony on the bench.

Along with Jadon Sancho, Pellistri was left out of the 20-man squad, indicating his time at United was up and he had now been moved on.

He is unlikely to be the last player to leave United this summer, with Barcelona reportedly keeping a close eye on Sancho while Napoli are targeting Scott McTominay.

United could also add players between now and the end of the window, and are reportedly close to signing PSG midfielder Manuel Ugarte.

United’s first game without Pellistri is on Saturday lunchtime when they travel to play Brighton at the Amex Stadium.
