Manchester United are predicted to finish in the bottom half of the Premier League, while City will narrowly edge out Arsenal for the title in a thrilling three-way race.
This is indicated by the latest predictions from a supercomputer, through JeffBet, which has determined the most probable places for each team at the end of the season.
United officially announced Ruben Amorim as Erik ten Hag’s successor at Old Trafford yesterday, but will have to wait until November 11 for the 39-year-old to take over, with Ruud van Nistelrooy extending his interim tenure until the international break.
Ten Hag was sacked the day after the dismal 2-1 defeat to West Ham and judging by the latest computer forecast, Amorim has his work cut out for him.
In fact, the Red Devils could finish in lowly 12th place despite the drastic change on the bench. They have not dropped below 10th since finishing 13th in 1990 under Sir Alex Ferguson, a campaign in which they also won the FA Cup.
Manchester United are expected to have a terrible finish in the Premier League with Ruben Amorim

Supercomputer predicts Manchester City will win its fifth consecutive league title
This campaign, United may have to settle for a tally of just 50 points, a figure that would put them below Brentford (ninth), Nottingham Forest (10th) and Bournemouth (11th) and keep them level with The Hammers.
At the opposite end of the table, the AI has calculated that City will win a fifth consecutive title, ahead of Mikel Arteta’s rivals on goal difference.
Both heavyweights are expected to finish with 95 points each.
Liverpool, meanwhile, would have to settle for third place despite Arne Slot’s near-perfect start to his first season in England.
Despite currently sitting in second place, and just one point behind City, the AI believes the Reds will fall to within seven points of the leader at 88.
Enzo Maresca’s Chelsea would take 76 points if the supercomputer proves correct, enough to leave them fourth and back in the Champions League.
Aston Villa and Brighton are fifth and sixth respectively in this scenario, while Newcastle would leapfrog competition from Tottenham to finish seventh.
Arsenal could fall woefully short if goal difference prevents them from overtaking City
Arne Slot’s clever Liverpool can finish third in their first campaign in England
The computer believes that Chelsea will finish fourth and return to the Champions League
In the relegation zone, it has been suggested that newcomers Southampton and Ipswich will be relegated back to the Championship at the first request.
According to the computer, they will also be joined by Gary O’Neil’s Wolves.
As reported by sport mailO’Neil retains the immediate backing of the hierarchy at Molineux but is mounting increasing pressure to turn around the club’s season.
