Manchester United target Matthijs de Ligt is being investigated by German police “on suspicion of hit-and-run”.

The centre-back was left out of Bayern Munich’s tour of South Korea at the end of July, as rumours continue to mount that he could be heading to Old Trafford this summer.

According IMAGEThe 24-year-old is said to have “rammed into a parked car” near the club’s training ground in Sabener Strasse on Wednesday morning while driving his Audi Q8 e-tron, valued at an estimated £63,000 (€74,400).

The outlet claims that the Dutch international “apparently simply drove away” from the scene and that witnesses called police emergency lines to alert them to the incident. BILD also claims that De Ligt’s car was later towed away and impounded.

According to Munich-based specialist lawyer Marc Wederhake, De Ligt could face up to a prison sentence as the maximum penalty for the incident if found guilty.

“If you are convicted, you face up to three years in prison or a fine. Fines are often imposed when people are convicted of such offences,” the lawyer explained to BILD.
