Manchester United are interested in tying down one of their rising stars to a long-term contract, according to reports.

Erik ten Hag’s men have endured a mixed start to the season after picking up six points from their opening four league games, but there have been some standout individual performances in the opening month of the campaign.

And one player who has caught the eye will now be rewarded with the offer of a new contract.

United are set to hand young winger Amad Diallo, 22, a new contract in the coming months, the Manchester Evening News has learned.

Amad is in the final year of his current contract but United have no interest in letting him leave for free next summer after his impressive start to the season.

Amad has been one of United's standout players this season under Erik ten Hag.

Amad has been one of United’s standout players this season under Erik ten Hag.

He has started three of the Red Devils’ four games so far, recording one goal and one assist.

His assist came in United’s last game as they returned to winning ways after two consecutive defeats with a 3-0 victory over Southampton on Saturday.

Ten Hag has preferred Amad over fellow youngster Alejandro Garnacho for the majority of United’s games this season, and clearly sees the Ivorian as part of his long-term plans at Old Trafford.

Amad joined United from Atalanta for £37m in January 2021 but initially struggled for playing time and was sent out on loan to Rangers and Sunderland in successive seasons.

He was limited to nine league appearances last season but now appears to have made a breakthrough into the first team in recent weeks after enjoying a strong pre-season.

Amad could be back in action tonight when United host Barnsley in the Carabao Cup third round.

Ten Hag won his first title with United by lifting the Carabao Cup in the 2022-23 season, but United were knocked out in the last 16 last year by Newcastle.

Amad and Co will be looking to avoid another early exit tonight, ahead of their next league game at Crystal Palace on Saturday.
