It is currently unclear whether United’s performance on the pitch this season will be discussed, but Ratcliffe will be at Villa Park on Sunday.

Ten Hag’s side have had a worrying start to the season, which has included them picking up just seven points from their first six Premier League games of the campaign.

United were beaten 3-0 at home by Tottenham last weekend, and that match was followed by a tumultuous 3-3 draw against Porto in the Europa League on Thursday night.

Joel Glazer is expected to fly from the United States to attend the meeting with the United hierarchy.

Ten Hag was given a contract extension after winning the FA Cup last season, but United have previously considered other candidates.

Now in his third season as United manager, Ten Hag’s side continue to lack consistency.

United recruited extensively during the summer transfer window, signing the likes of Joshua Zirkzee, Leny Yoro, Matthijs De Ligt, Noussair Mazraoui and Manuel Ugarte.

However, they have still endured many difficulties and another disappointing result against Villa would only serve to increase the pressure on ten Hag.

Ratcliffe refused to publicly endorse ten Hag when asked about the Dutchman.

Asked if he still had faith in ten Hag, Ratcliffe told the BBC: “I don’t want to answer that question.

‘I like Erick. “I think he is a very good manager, but at the end of the day it is not my decision, it is the management team that runs Manchester United that has to decide how to best manage the team in many different aspects.”
