Gary Neville has claimed that Man United had a better team three years ago, under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, than they do now under Ruben Amorim.
A miserable 2-0 defeat on Monday night at home to Newcastle leaves the Red Devils in 14th place in the Premier League and just seven points above 18th-placed Ipswich Town.
To make matters worse, there are already doubts about the tactical approach of Amorim, who have already suffered four consecutive defeats.
The performance drew criticism from the likes of Neville and Jamie Carragher, who claimed that Ruben Amorim’s system was having a negative impact on the team.
Meanwhile, Neville suggested Amorim is working with one of the weakest United teams in recent history and claimed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team, who was sacked in 2021, was better than the current team.
speaking in sky sportsNeville said: “It was Wan-Bissaka, Shaw, Lindelof and Maguire, which is a better backline than there is now.”

Gary Neville later claimed United had a better team under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer (above)
“They were Matic and McTominay, which is a much better midfield than Casemiro and Eriksen. And in front were Sancho, Rashford, Bruno and Cristiano, who is also much better than the players there are.
“Now that team was generally considered not to be good enough for Manchester United and rightly so. But that team, that last game for Ole, is much better than the team we are seeing here. And that is the concern.
“Another £450m has been spent since that period. I guess if you went to (José) Mourinho’s last game, you might even find a better team again!
“You hope moments like tonight are the low point, but the team that played tonight isn’t going to win many football games.” It really won’t be like that in this league.
‘Manchester United have spent £1.5 billion in the last 10 years… £500 million in the last three! In fact, he was excited about the summer signings. What happened?! “Nobody was saying in the summer that these signings would make Man United worse.”
The Norwegian spent three years at the helm of his beloved Manchester and returned to the club in 2018, 11 years after his playing days at the Red Devils.
Solskjaer had a difficult time on the bench and eventually left his position after a 4-1 Premier League defeat to Watford in November 2021.
During his time at the club, the Norwegian oversaw the Red Devils’ sixth, third and second place finishes, as well as Cristiano Ronaldo’s return to the club.
However, after a dismal start to the 2021-22 season, Solsjkaer was relieved of his duties and has been without a club since.
United had players like Cristiano Ronaldo (right) and a fit Marcus Rashford (left) in 2021.
Meanwhile, several of United’s recent summer signings have failed to hit the ground running.
In September, Solskjaer revealed that the decision to sign ronaldo of Juventus in 2021 it was wrong: admitting that they did it to prevent him from joining City.
Solskjaer said: ‘Cristiano Ronaldo, one of the best players in the world in the last 15 years. I played with him. He played for Manchester United. He has history at the club and is leaving Juventus, but we can’t hand him to Manchester City because he will probably score more goals than Erling Haaland at the moment.
“So I talk to Cristiano. We took him to Man United, but I think maybe that affected the whole dressing room, the dynamic in the dressing room.
“Maybe other players felt less important because of course this is one of the global superstars coming in.”
‘He did well. He was the top scorer that year, he scored 24 goals or something, but I was out of a job 10 weeks later!’
