Eagle-eyed Manchester United fans have noticed a subtle change in Ruben Amorim’s job title compared to Erik ten Hag’s.

The Red Devils confirmed the Portuguese coach as Ten Hag’s replacement on Friday afternoon and announced that he has agreed to become their new head coach on a two-and-a-half-year contract.

Immediately, some United fans on social media discovered that Ten Hag had been announced as ‘manager’ when the club confirmed his arrival in April 2022. The change indicates a difference in their respective roles.

In fact, GiveMeSport writer Ben Jacobs claimed that Amorim’s deal does not include a hiring veto. It is a clear sign of the changing landscape at the club under co-owners Ineos and that has not gone unnoticed by the fan base.

“Oh wow, they’ve labeled Amorim ‘head coach’ rather than ‘manager’. It completely aligns with the new INEOS regime.” A fan wrote in X.

Another posted: ‘Ten Hag – “Manager.” Amorim – “Head Coach.” Welcome to the INEOS era.’ A third said: ‘Head coach + no veto. The INEOS man.’

Earlier this week, Mail Sport revealed that Amorim had a notice period within his contract with Sporting Lisbon.

Following negotiations, United are understood to have paid €1m on top of the £8.3m release clause to secure an early exit which will allow the new man to take advantage of the international break to familiarize himself with his surroundings ahead of his first match in command, which will be at Ipswich Town on November 24.

Meanwhile, interim manager Ruud van Nistelrooy will oversee the visits of Chelsea and Leicester City, who share a Europa League home game with PAOK.

It remains to be seen if the club’s former Dutch striker will become part of Amorim’s backroom.

No agreement has yet been reached to bring assistants to Manchester, and talks are ongoing.

The Dutchman was introduced as the new coach of the Red Devils when he joined back in 2022.

United are confident Amorim will bring his golden touch to Old Trafford after four successful years in the Portuguese capital. Under his direction, Sporting won two top-flight titles, including their first in 19 years.

Furthermore, Amorim took them to two four drinks. At Old Trafford he will be reunited with captain Bruno Fernandes and Manuel Ugarte, whom he coached in Portugal.
