Manchester United are considering extending Mason Greenwood’s contract this summer to prevent him being sold on the cheap, according to a new report.
Greenwood, 22, impressed during his year on loan at La Liga side Getafe, scoring 10 goals and providing six assists on his way to being named Player of the Season.
It has attracted interest from some of Europe’s top clubs, including Champions League finalists Borussia Dortmund, Italian clubs Juventus and Napoli, and Spanish side Atlético Madrid.
The I reports that Man United could extend Greenwood’s contract at Old Trafford, in a bid to avoid low bids for his services this summer.
Greenwood is currently contracted to Man United for one more year, but they have a one-year option, which they can use in a bid to increase his asking price.

Man United’s new co-owners Ineos are looking for a quick sale of the striker to boost their transfer kit but are not looking to sell any of their players, including Greenwood, for “fire sale prices”.
United reportedly want £40m for the £75,000-a-week striker, a similar fee to what Chelsea paid to buy Cole Palmer from Manchester City at the end of last summer’s transfer window.
Greenwood has not played for Man United since January 2022, after he was arrested and subsequently charged in October 2022 with attempted rape, controlling behavior and assault. The case against him was dropped in February 2023 after key witnesses withdrew.
United received backlash following speculation that Greenwood could rejoin the team following an internal investigation.
Man United are asking for £40m, even though Greenwood has not played for them since January 2022.
His management team concluded that releasing the player from his contract was not an option, but rather that they would seek a future for him outside of Old Trafford, beginning with a loan to Getafe in September 2023.
Greenwood denied the allegations and has not been found guilty of any crime.
