Man United captain Bruno Fernandes breaks player silence on Erik ten Hag's sacking

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has broken his silence on Erik ten Hag’s sacking to wish the Dutchman well.

Fernandes took to social media to post a tribute to Ten Hag just an hour after his dismissal was confirmed in an official club statement.

United’s dismal 2-1 defeat to West Ham on Sunday proved to be the last straw and the patience of senior figures at Old Trafford ran out.

Mail Sport understands that the team was informed of Ten Hag’s dismissal at the same time as the public announcement and Fernandes was the first to react.

‘Thanks for everything boss!’ he wrote on Instagram. ‘I appreciate the trust and the moments we shared together, I wish you all the best in the future.

“Even knowing that the last period was not (sic) good for all of us, I hope the fans can preserve the good things that the manager has done for our club.”

United are 14th after a shaky start to the Premier League campaign and three successive Europa League draws have further increased the pressure on Ten Hag.

Ten Hag was informed of his dismissal on Monday morning and left after two and a half years in the role. He won the Carabao Cup and the FA Cup.

Ruud van Nistelrooy, the club legend who joined in the summer as part of Ten Hag’s new coaching staff, has been put in charge on a short-term interim basis.

United’s search for a permanent replacement is already underway and Mail Sport reported that the club has already spoken to a number of potential candidates.

Talks have been held with former Barcelona manager Xavi, while figures such as Ruben Amorim, Edin Terzic and Thomas Frank have admirers at Old Trafford.
