A man has been murdered on a beach in front of a luxurious five-star resort in Cancun.
Four armed men approached the man who was in the sand in front of Hotel Riu and shot him several times, before two fled the scene on waiting jet skis and two left on foot.
Tourists watched in horror and ran for cover as the man carried out the targeted attack before attempting to escape police in a quick chase. Turquoise News reported.
The victim was confirmed by the Attorney General’s Office of the State of Quintana Roo as being of Mexican nationality and around 30 years old.
Authorities are exploring the possibility that this homicide may be related to drug trafficking and cartel-related crimes.

Two gunmen on foot and two on jet skis approached the man in front of the five-star resort and shot him several times in front of tourists who ran for cover Wednesday morning.
The victim was confirmed by the Attorney General’s Office of the State of Quintana Roo as being of Mexican nationality and around 30 years old, Turquesa News reported.
He Hotel Riu Caribe issued a statement that the dead man was not a guest or employee of its hotel, Riviera Maya News reported.
Police have not identified the deceased man, but paramedics confirmed he was dead at the scene.
One of the four gunmen fled after shots were fired and ran across the beach area of the neighboring Dreams Hotel.
Witnesses said the suspect was wearing dark shorts and a black shirt.
The U.S. State Department lists Mexico as a level two warning, meaning tourists should use extra caution when traveling.

The Riu Caribe Hotel issued a statement stating that the deceased was not a guest or employee of its hotel, Riviera Maya News reported.

“Increasing levels of cartel-related violence have resulted in turf wars and targeted killings, injuring or killing innocent bystanders.”
This shooting occurred two months after a 12-year-old boy was shot and killed after gunmen riding jet skis opened fire on rival drug traffickers on a beach in Cancun, Mexico.
The boy, identified as Santiago, was with his family sitting in a chair on Caracol Beach next to the Riu Cancún when he was hit by multiple stray bullets on July 29.
Santiago was treated at the scene by paramedics and rushed to an area hospital, where he later died.
