The loving pet owner sweetly recreated a photo of himself 20 years ago with his childhood cat before having to put the animal down.

The man, from the USA, addressed reddit to reveal how he wanted to recreate the snapshot as a last memory with the beloved pet.

‘Today I put my childhood cat to sleep and did my best to recreate an image from 20 years ago. I will always love you Gandalf,’ he wrote.

Accompanying the post was an adorable 50/50 photo of the user photographed as a child and then again as an adult. In the childhood photo, Gandalf is a kitten, while in the recent photo he is an elderly cat.

In both images, the Redditor is wearing an orange t-shirt and smiling sweetly at the camera while lovingly cradling Gandalf.

People were quick to flood the comments with support, some sharing personal pet anecdotes and many praising the late cat’s name.
