A New York City man orchestrated a very fake “emergency” – complete with a fire truck, firefighters, and a woman who was apparently in labor – to make an unforgettable proposal for his bride-to-be.

Mike Matthews told me I like the Upper West Side his now fiancé, Amy Marshall, is a nurse who runs her hospital’s labor department – but while Mike regularly bounces off Manhattan medical emergencies and can’t do anything to help, Amy has valuable skills and knowledge in that area. arena, has never encountered an unexpected emergency on the street.

So Mike decided to organize one for her, arranging for a pregnant girlfriend to wear a disguise and pretend he was giving birth on the street, as well as enlisting help from the local fire station of the city. FDNY.

Technically, albeit unofficially, Mike and Amy were already engaged and went on to take engagement photos together on April 16.

But even though they’ve already planned their wedding for May 6 in Central Park, Mike had yet to formally ask Amy whether to give her a ring.

“She was half mad at me because who takes engagement photos WITHOUT BEING INVOLVED!” Mike admitted.

But he had a surprise in store.

‘She’s always walking around New York City, and she’s never had a medical emergency on the street, in a restaurant, someone getting hit on a bike, having to run to help them, what she would know what she had to do, ”said Mike Patch.

‘While I see things and don’t know what to do. It always amazes me. Like how hasn’t that happened to you yet? So that was the starting point. ‘

For the day of their scheduled engagement photo shoot, Mike visited the local NYPD Precinct and the FDNY Fire Station to ask if they would help him draft his proposal.

He explained that he had asked a pregnant friend to hide her identity and pretend she was giving birth in the middle of the street, near where Mike wanted to be with Amy that morning.

“I literally knocked on the door and explained what I wanted to do,” he said. “One of the FDNY firefighter’s mothers was a nurse for thirty years, so he was kind of heartbroken for it.”

The NYPD and the FDNY both agreed to be there, barring a real emergency that would be prioritized.

Finally, on April 16, Mike set the tone. He and Amy were waiting to order bagels when Mike pulled out his phone and showed a fake screenshot of the Citizen app, which allows users to track local crime and other security incidents.

It showed a woman was in labor a block away, so Amy and Mike walked over to see if Amy could help.

When they got there, their friend was ‘in a panic’ on a bench, surrounded by firefighters. (The NYPD couldn’t make it.)

‘[Amy] went straight into nursing mode, ”Mike said. ‘So I’m like,’ Okay, she thinks this is real, and she’s going to do this, she doesn’t care about her nails, her makeup, whatever. ”

“My biggest regret was not recording the audio,” he continued. I mean, there was screaming, screaming, and Amy was about to take it [the other woman’s] pants off and deliver this baby! My friend literally had to tell her “not yet!” and then she turned around. ‘

When Amy turned around, Mike was on one knee holding up a diamond ring.

In a video shot of the moment, Amy appears to have immediately acknowledged that the hole was a ruse, and she takes off her gloves in exasperation.

“I made her think she was giving birth in the middle of the street and she still loves me and I love her so this is going to work out,” Mike wrote on Instagram.
