A man was shot dead in the suburbs before the suspected getaway car was found burnt out 4km away.

A man was shot dead in the suburbs before the suspected getaway car was found burned out 3 kilometers away.

Emergency services were called to Sutherland Street, Canley Heights in western Sydney about 6.50am on Sunday night following reports shots had been fired.

Paramedics treated the man, believed to be in his 30s, for gunshot wounds at the scene but were unable to revive him.

A burnt-out car was found shortly afterwards in the nearby suburb of Wakeley.

NSW Fire and Rescue crews extinguished the fire.

The alleged gunman remains at large.

Police have received no other reports of injuries.

Officers from the City of Fairfield Police Area Command attended and established a crime scene, which will be forensically examined.

Fairfield officers, assisted by the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad, are carrying out investigations into the incidents, which are believed to be related.

A report will be prepared for the coroner’s information.
