A man was shot by police in the outback of Melbourne on Monday afternoon as paramedics arrived on the scene.

Emergency services were on site at Newlands Road in Coburg North around 4:40 PM.

Bystanders called radio station 3AW to report that they heard gunshots near Coburg Lake Reserve.

Police have confirmed that no one else was injured in the incident.
