Horror as a man’s legs get caught in machinery and crushed in a freak work accident at a recycling plant

  • Emergency services worked for hours to free the man
  • Paramedics then rushed him to the Royal Adelaide Hospital

A worker at a plastics recycling plant was seriously injured when his legs got caught in heavy machinery in a horrific industrial accident.

A medical team, firefighters and State Emergency Service units spent hours trying to free the man in his 50s at Recycling Plastics Australia in Adelaide’s Kilburn around 3.30pm on Monday.

Paramedics eventually rushed him to the Royal Adelaide Hospital, where he is said to be in a serious condition.

On its website, the facility claims to have the “most advanced” recycling equipment in Australia and can process 40,000 tonnes of material annually.

‘The bottom line is that with the best operators and the best equipment we can guarantee a supply that no one else in Australia can match,’ says the Recycling Plastics Australia website.

Safe Work South Australia is now investigating the cause of the accident.
