A Canadian man in the hip coastal town of Playa del Carmen was the victim of another senseless murder when he was murdered by a companion while a group of people watched.

An unidentified male foreigner was assassinated on Wednesday afternoon in a park just four blocks away from the beaches, one of the most important tourist attractions in Mexico.

The Riviera Maya beach resort of the Yucatan Peninsula is still a haven for outsiders, despite the violence under control that has engulfed many of the country's main destinations for beach lovers.
