A man in the midst of a dramatic police chase after allegedly stealing a car has been captured on camera as he set down a drink for officers just before his arrest.

Police followed the man’s movements after attempting to pull over a vehicle on Mandurah Road in Madora Bay, southwest of Perth, around 10:20 PM Sunday – but he would not have been able to stop.

The Holden Colorado utility police who were after him had reportedly been stolen from nearby Barragup.

The 43-year-old later left the car on Old Pinjarra Road in Greenfields, with footage from the police helicopter showing him grabbing a drink before cops got closer.

Two officers drew their weapons as the man threw his arms in the air before laying on the ground.

The man was charged with multiple offenses, including twice stealing a motor vehicle, twice for lacking authorization and unable to stop.

He was bailed out on Monday to appear before the Perth Magistrates Court.
