Shocking new details have emerged after a young man was found dead in the courtyard of a housing complex with his ankles shattered, while a woman’s body was found with stab wounds in an upstairs apartment.

The man’s body was found in the courtyard of the Conder Street building in Burwood, in Sydney’s inner west, shortly after 8.50am on Monday.

Officers later found the body of a woman with stab wounds, along with the suspected murder weapon, inside a unit at the same complex.

New South Wales Police Detective Chief Superintendent Christine McDonald said police were called to the scene by a member of the public who discovered the man’s body.

Officers were then led to the unit block where the woman was found trawling through CCTV footage.

Superintendent McDonald said the two deceased were of Asian appearance and were believed to be aged between 20 and 30. They have not yet been formally identified and police are yet to determine their nationalities.

Police believe at least one of the deceased lived within the complex, but have not yet determined the nature of their relationship.

“It’s too early for me at this point to say this is murder, suicide or domestic violence,” he said.

“What I can say is that violence against anyone is not and will not be tolerated.”

Superintendent McDonald said the woman was caught on CCTV entering the apartment on Monday morning before being stabbed.

The man was found with injuries to his ankles and police are investigating the line of inquiry that he jumped from the building.

Superintendent McDonald said the unit and individuals were not believed to be known to police.

As the investigation continues, anyone with information is urged to contact police.

A resident who lives nearby said he heard “very loud applause” around 6 a.m. Monday.

“I wasn’t sure what it was but I didn’t hear anyone screaming. It was just quiet,” they told Daily Mail Australia.
