Manchester City have released a series of AI-generated photos in the style of the 1990s, and they have fans in hysterics.

The images show seven players and Pep Guardiola dressed in the gear of the decade with old-fashioned hairstyles.

Erling Haaland was the subject of much commentary thanks to his quiff and mullet, with many fans suggesting he looked like a bully from an American high school movie.

Continuing that theme, others saw the funny side of the suggestion that Haaland’s likeness would give Julian Alvarez wedgies.

Kyle Walker got a new hairstyle with curls and wore sunglasses and a blue jacket as his AI character tried to look cool.

Meanwhile, Jack Grealish wore a brown leather jacket and quiff and drew comparisons to David Beckham – a lookalike pair that has been around a lot, but now has some serious credibility with this new AI likeness.

The big difference with Pep Guardiola was that he suddenly had a head full of feathers, but AI couldn’t figure out what he actually looked like when he was a Barcelona player in the 1990s. The crest on his kit vaguely resembled that of Manchester City.

Wearing a blue jersey and luscious parted locks on top, Kevin de Bruyne was compared to Prince Harry by some commentators – although their footballing skills have yet to be tested one-on-one.

Bernardo Silva was credited with looking quite cozy, with enough hair to keep him warm in winter and a sweater.

Finally, Phil Foden was given a more distinctive style, with a more modern haircut with faded sides.

One user commented: ‘Haaland looks like the average bully in American high school movies.’

Another wrote: “Haaland looks like he’s bullying people into giving him lunch money.”

The comment with the most likes received more than 6,000 likes. “Haaland looks like he’s giving Alvarez Wedgies,” it said.

Another commented: ‘Grealish looks so much like Beckham lol’.

“I think Grealish wins this one,” one user wrote.

One wrote a musical twist: “Bernardo and Julián look like the Bee Gees of Modern Talking.”

In an attempt to sum up the sentiment of the post, one person wrote: “What in the Riverdale is going on,” referring to the American TV series with teenage characters.
