Manchester City have lodged a complaint with their local BBC radio station over their coverage of the club.
Officials at the Etihad Stadium were stunned when no dedicated City reporters were present from BBC Radio Manchester at the pre-derby press conference, which they believe is the first time in history something like this has happened.
The broadcaster has the rights to City matches and the club is usually covered by the broadcaster’s own City journalist.
However, that reporter has been regularly sidetracked in recent times, and others have been brought in to cover the club in a move that has left those at City scratching their heads.
They believe that no other team in the top flight has been subjected to the same treatment and that, as a result, listeners who support the club are missing out. The absence of a City reporter in the run-up to the derby was considered the last straw.
It is understood that City have contacted Radio Manchester to make their feelings clear on the matter.

The rights deals are seen as valuable to local BBC stations across the country. Radio Manchester does not have a similar agreement with, for example, Manchester United.
The BBC declined to comment, although internal sources insisted that no “official complaint” had been made, although Mail Sport believes that to be the case.
They added that they are covering City “as much as ever”, as well as the matches and said that for the derby there was a commentator from City and United, as usual.
