Kevin De Bruyne refuses to let the result of Saturday’s Champions League final against Inter define his career.
The Manchester City talisman suffered a concussion with a fractured eye socket on an unforgettable night in the club’s first final, the 2021 loss to Chelsea.
And while he accepts that City must conquer Europe to gain recognition in some quarters, De Bruyne believes Pep Guardiola’s side have already proven themselves enough.
“It depends who you ask,” the 31-year-old said. ‘Will that help? Yes. But 90 minutes does not define a career.
“I’m in about 700 games. 90 minutes out of 700 doesn’t define my career. But obviously it helps.

De Bruyne believes Pep Guardiola’s side have already proven themselves as they look to complete a historic treble when they face Inter Milan in the Champions League final.
“We performed very well. We participated in so many quarters and semi-finals and two finals. We went there most of the time.
“I want to win the Champions League and I want to win the Treble. We should enjoy next week and hopefully we can do our best.
De Bruyne has warned that although City go to Istanbul as big favourites, they cannot underestimate an Inter side who have progressed beyond Porto, Benfica and AC Milan.
“They are a very good team,” he added. ‘The finals are 50-50. It’s always difficult. You have to manage these moments.
“There will be times when it will be difficult, but in the big times we try to do our job. Inter have great players and we respect them. They did not reach the final by beating easy teams.
