A 61-year-old man has been charged with the alleged poisoning of a woman in Sydney’s west.

Police say the woman became seriously ill after drinking tea allegedly prepared by the man, whom she knew.

Following a police investigation, Stephan Wagner was arrested at his home in Campbelltown and charged with causing poison to be taken with intent to murder, using poison to endanger life and using poison to inflict grievous bodily harm.

Police also confiscated a bottle of insecticide at the house, which was sent for forensic testing.

Wagner has been refused bail and is due to appear at Campbelltown Local Court today.
