A man has died after being arrested for allegedly assaulting a police officer in northern New South Wales.
Richmond Police District officers were called to a fairgrounds on Summerland Way in the Casino, following reports that a man had been assaulted around 11 a.m. Sunday.
Police will allege that when they arrived at the fairgrounds, a 48-year-old man allegedly assaulted a police officer.
The man was arrested and taken to the Casino police station.

While in custody, the man became unconscious.
NSW Police and ambulance paramedics attempted to revive the man, however he died in custody.
A critical incidents team from the State Crime Command Homicide Squad will now investigate all the circumstances surrounding the man’s death.
The investigation will be subject to independent review and a report will be prepared for the coroner.
