A knife-wielding man has been arrested and arrested after a woman was found dead at a home in Sydney’s southwest.
Emergency services rushed to a house on Wattle Street in Bankstown on Sunday evening at 7pm after reports of a small fire at a property.
After extinguishing the fire at the rear of the property, firefighters discovered a woman inside with serious head injuries.
The police officers who arrived at the home were then confronted by a man armed with a knife.

They deployed a Taser to subdue the 31-year-old man and take him into custody.
The 67-year-old woman was examined by paramedics before being pronounced dead.
She has not yet been officially identified. NSW Police confirmed she was known to the man.
“A crime scene has been established and detectives have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident as part of Strike Force Panhandle,” a spokesperson said in a statement.
The man was taken to Bankstown Police Station before being transferred to hospital for assessment.
No charges have yet been filed.
