Man Allegedly Kills 18-Month-Old Girl After Disturbing Call to Girl's Mother About 'Abnormal Breathing'

A Kentucky man has been charged with murder after an 18-month-old girl he was babysitting suffered serious injuries and later died. Terrance Corbin, 20, was babysitting the girl and her 3-year-old brother on Jan. 7 in Elizabethtown, Kentucky, with no other adults present.

According police, Corbin contacted The children’s mother around 4 p.m. said that the youngest child was breathing abnormally. Minutes later, she allegedly called 911 to report that the child had stopped breathing.

“Our officers arrived, immediately recognized the child’s condition as critical and transported her (to the hospital),” Elizabethtown Police Public Affairs Officer Chris Denham said in a statement. The boy was later flown to Norton Children’s Hospital in Louisville.

Medical evaluations revealed that the girl had suffered “substantial swelling and bleeding” to her scalp and face, skull fractures and internal bleeding. Tragically, the little girl succumbed to her injuries.

“A pediatrician who specializes in child abuse noted that the boy’s skull fractures were the worst they had encountered during his time practicing medicine,” Denham said. Corbin was arrested and charged with murder. Authorities have not revealed his relationship with the children’s mother or the family.

In an interview with WDRBDenham called the crime incomprehensible. “How could you do that to a baby?” asked. “I’m not sure.” The incident shocked the Elizabethtown community, with police calling it a “heinous, despicable and disgusting crime.”

It is unclear whether Corbin has pleaded guilty or obtained legal representation. The investigation is ongoing and authorities are working to provide answers to the grieving family. The tragic death has also drawn attention to child abuse awareness and prevention.

Community members are calling for justice and mourning the loss of a life taken too soon. As the legal process unfolds, police and children’s advocates urge vigilance to ensure the safety of children and protect them from harm.
