A 46-year-old man has been accused of kidnapping a toddler at a shopping center in Newcastle.

Then he hugged the toddler and reportedly tried to pull it away.
Police say the boy’s 46-year-old father withdrew him from the man who subsequently became aggressive and kept trying to grab the child.
“With the help of witnesses, the boy was returned to his father and the man was detained until officers arrived,” police said in a statement Monday.
Neither the boy nor his father were physically injured.
A 46-year-old man has since been charged with two counts of taking a child with the intention of removing the child from parental control and two counts of ordinary abuse.
The Fletcher man was denied bail and will appear in Newcastle court.
