According to a preliminary police report, Trinidad has appeared unannounced at Rodríguez Muñoz's home in the Dominican capital.
After he entered the house with a key he had stolen, the suspect opened fire, according to the Dominican news site El Masacre.
Rodríguez Muñoz was reportedly eliminated by Trinidad's controlling and aggressive behavior and had ended the relationship four months ago, according to her father.
But Trinidad reportedly claimed that she would resume their broken relationship and continued to harass and follow her whereabouts.
The Nova Mañón family said that Trinidad was a retired member of the Dominican Republic police.
The island's national police, however, denied that he ever served the ward.
